What kind of car can be donated?

The donated car may have defects that do not affect driving. These include rust, electronics, interior, cracked windows. There may also be cars that need minor repairs such as brake pads, oil, filters, battery or similar. The car needs to travel about 1 500 kilometres to Ukraine, where craftsmen repair them for the military free of charge. Donated pick-up trucks or jeeps are handled separately and are also worth repairing in Lithuania.

What documents are needed?

The car does not need a valid registration, roadworthiness test or insurance.

How is the car handed over?

The car is either a gift from you or a purchase. A contract is signed and you can register it online or at your nearest Regitsa office.

Are the seized cars being repaired?

If necessary, the car is given the minimum repairs needed for the journey to Ukraine. There, technicians repair them for the military free of charge, charging only for the parts needed for the repair.

How many kilometres to the Ukrainian border?

The journey through Poland to the Ukrainian border is about 1000 kilometres. Beyond that, it depends on the unit the car is assigned to and the condition of the car.

What are the border procedures?

Poland-Ukraine border. A military car can only be imported by the Foundation and accepted by the Foundation or directly by a military unit. The vehicle is entered in the donation register and special red stamps are placed on the technical passport and declarations. After this procedure, the car cannot leave the territory of Ukraine. At the end of the war, it will have to be disposed of.

What procedures follow?

The car is driven to its destination, where it is reassigned to the pool at the local customs office and issued with Ukrainian documents and plates. The car is assigned to a soldier or unit by mandate and is not available to others.

Why isn't it worthwhile to take old cars for sale?

To sell a car, if it is not imported for military use, customs and taxes can be several thousand euros, logistics around €500, so it makes financial sense to transport only new cars with a high market price.

What happens if I don't register and tax my car?

Once a car has been imported and left there with a European registration, it can stay in Ukraine for up to one year. Failure to clear customs and re-register can result in a fine of around €10,000. Even if the car entered with one driver and left with another, the details of the entering driver remain in the register and the driver has to check with customs every time he crosses the border where the car is.
